Schedule & Activations for Marquette Park
The National March into Marquette Park on Saturday, August 1, features a full day of programming in and around the historic Chicago Park. Below is the schedule and list of free, drop-in post-march activations.
Schedule
9:00 am to 9:30 am: Arrive at Staging Area @ 63rd and S. Kedzie
9:30 am-11 am: Welcoming Remarks (Speakers, artistic offerings)
11 am to 11:45 am: Legacy March from 63rd & S. Kedzie to 6700 S. Kedzie Ave (Marquette Park)
12 pm-2 pm: Program with headliners: Bernice King (Dr. King’s daughter), Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson & COMMON’s performance along with the featured headliners and speakers & more TBA!

Post-march Activations
1. Inner-City Muslim Action Network:
Therapeutic Art Processing
Located outside in a tent within the park, open from 2:30pm-4:30pm
A reflective, creative space led by local art therapist Vania Sulley offering a place to process the meaning and impact of the day through visual art therapy directives. The directives will explore processing memories, grief, hope, and a commitment to advocating for justice as a personal and communal wellness practice.
2. Speed Organizing- Muslim Civic Coalition
Located inside the fieldhouse in the East Gymnasium from 3:00pm-3:45pm
A lively and relational space to learn and engage in foundational organizing practices. Join us for short, structured conversations to explore what brought you to the march, what issues move you, and what actions you are interested in taking to sustain this work.
3. Get Out The Vote Workshop- Muslim Civic Coalition
Located inside the fieldhouse in the East Gymnasium from 4:00pm-4:45pm
An engaging and informative workshop to learn about voter registration, getting involved in your local government, and advocating for voting rights.
4. Resource Fair- CIOGC and Arise Chicago
Located in the Fieldhouse hallway, 2:00pm-5:00pm
Local organizations will join us to table and share social support resources including mental health, organizing and advocacy, know your rights, public health, and more.
5. Faith in the Workers' Struggle: from MLK to Chicago Today- Ethan/Arise
Located in the fieldhouse auditorium, 3:00pm-4:00pm
In this workshop, we will hear from key union leaders from across Chicago about campaigns to unionize Uber and Lyft drivers, win temperature protections in factories, and fight for dignity for hospital workers. We'll explore what it takes to win a union campaign, what faith-labor solidarity can look like, and how you can organize a union in your own workplace.
6. National Campaign on Immigration Detention Centers- Powered By Faith
Located in the auditorium, 2:30pm-4:00pm
Across the country, our families, friends, and neighbors are getting brutalized by the federal government's mass deportation campaign. Through Powered By Faith, people of faith are organizing a national campaign focused on immigration detention centers to foster human dignity and basic rights. Join us for this workshop about the campaign with local and national organizers.
7. Cross-Cultural Line Dance- IMAN
Located outside in the music tent, 3:30pm-5:00pm
Chicago Lawn is a historically multicultural neighborhood. The area has been home to Black, Mexican, and Arab communities. Join us in a cross-cultural exploration, as our wonderful facilitators teach us how to do line-dances from various cultures!
8. Art in the Park Community Exhibit- Marquette Park Advisory Committee
Located in the fieldhouse club room, 2:00pm-5:00pm
This activation invited local community members to create art reflecting on the moral themes surrounding the march to show creative and artistic solidarity with the movement.
9. Children's MLK Activation- Melanie/SWAN
Located in the fieldhouse club room, 2:30-pm-3:00pm
A children's activation featuring readings from children's books on the history and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. followed by an art activity.
10. Jewish Shabbat Reading Service- Martin Levine/Coalition of Jewish Organizations
Located outside in the prayer tent, 2:30pm-3:30pm
A moment of stillness, spiritual connection, and community united by a Shabbat Reading Service led by local Jewish leaders and community members.
